07/01/2014 15:39

Krk is one of the most largest Adriatic islands next to Cres, and also the most populated island on the Adriatic Sea, with numerous towns and villages. The island is situated near the mainland and has been connected to it with a two-arch concrete bridge.

The island of Krk is a great sailing location to visit and explore while being on a cruise, because of the situation and proximity to Slovenia, southern Germany, Austria and northern Italy.

The island's main harbor of Krk Town has moorings for visiting charter yachts and boats, and it is a very popular harbor for over-wintering yachts and other sailing ships due to its well protected shelter from wind.

The island's most famous attractions are the Krk Cathedral and Venetian castle, and both of this historical buildings can be seen while visiting Krk Town. Very lovely location is also Vrbik, since it provides a more mediaeval atmosphere then other locations. If you are a hiking fan, Baska has long mountain trails, and Punat is also interesting for its 16h century Franciscan monastery on a small island in the center of the inlet.

The best way to start your tour of the island is from the town of Krk, where you can experience numerous concerts and theatrical events during the Krk Festival in July and August. The most talked about place to eat in the town of Krk is konoba Nada that offers some great food like smoked ham and cheese, which go perfectly with homemade wine.

The best place to take your family or friends sailing while on a holiday is the town of Malinska, which many of the visiting tourist like to call a small slice of heaven. What is great about Malisnka is that the town is filled with restaurants that offer fresh fish and other seafood dishes. Thanks to its isolated and secluded location, the sea there is generally warmer and excellent for swimming and diving. The most beautiful beach is called Rajski Put and there you can enjoy a nice stroll along the shore or even set up camp.

All in all, the island Krk is an excellent destination that won't leave you disappointed and will most surely make you want to visit it again in the future.
